Default Local chat abusers

Does anyone else get annoyed when you go to a town and local chat is filled with people trying to sell stuff? Often to the point you can't hold a decent conversation or even read it? A few minutes ago I spend 20 minutes of my time sitting in LA 1 clicking every name that was spamming sellables or to buy and saying

"Take it to the trade channel please"

I got a very mixed set of reactions, from being completely ignored, to insulted, to people who didn't know trade existed, to another person who asked why I wanted them to move. Conversation went something like this:

Me: Take it to the trade channel please.
Spammer: Why?
M: Because there is an entire chat channel just for selling stuff.
S: What do you care?
M: Local chat is used for talking to people, finding groups, asking questions- Not possible when it's full of people trying to sell stuff.
S: Why are you telling me to move when so many other people are selling in local?
M: I'm telling everybody to move from local.
S: Are you a GM?
M: Just a concerned citizen.

I eventually gave up. Too many responses such as "I can't read trade, why should I use it?" or "Doesn't matter what channel I use"

I think most people know what you mean, its because of things like that people are forced to turn certain chat off completly when in towns.

It's just depressing how ignorantly belligerant some people can be.

I know. I always have the trade channel off just because I don't want to see that stuff (especially when I'm in Lion's Arch), but I always see it in the local chat and it annoys me. One time I tried to tell a person to take it to the trade channel but they wouldn't. What's so hard about just putting it in the trade channel? Or are they just not smart enough to change the channels?

I'd love to take a screenshot of everyone in LA trying to sell in local and ANet suspend their account for 48 hours. I bet people would start using the proper channel then.

Indeed - and it's especially bad in larger towns such as Ascalon or Lions Arch. I don't know, but A-Net should just start to ban the more blatant chat abusers. It's no better then botting IMHO.

Yeah, those people are so annoying. Next time, I'll start putting those spammers on my ignore list.

What I wish they would do is implement a "warning level" ignore option to chat. Basically, you could flag a player and warn them similar to what AIM does based on an account. Over time, this would be decreased. In your options, you could specify a maximum warning level where you ignore players above that level. It would obviously disregard players on your friend list or in your guild. Also, you might put an option so that a given player can only be warned so many times in a given duration, or a player can only warn X number of people in a given time.

This is a huge problem. After about a week of playing, I muted the local and trade channels. I used to think that implementing a "LFG channel" or "grouping channel" would help fix the problem. Then I came to the sad realization that the griefers and spammers would just take that channel over too, just like they did the local one. :/

They should just add a feature that scans for key words like WTS, WTB, Selling, Buying, W T B, W T S... and automatically moves the message to the Trade channel regardless.

Would annoy the heckout of them for a week or so ^_^

If you take somthing to the trade channel doesn't it still just come up on the screen except in orange? I've noticed all this stuff to, and seeing a huge flood of orange text flying by makes it just as hard to keep up with conversations.

Open your chat screen and uncheck the "trade" box. That wil get rid of the trade channel chat.

theres 2 easy ways to kill "all"-trade spam.

1.
ignore the all chat AND say in the all chat that you ignore the all chat because of idiots abusing it and you only trade with non idiots.
you can still chat in the game, using the all chat, via speech bubbles.

2. pm all the spammers with "ill buy it, come to the COAST" (its a long walk for them from the storage), once they say they can not find you, just send them to other random locations. its DAMN FUNNY

I haven't had my Local Chat turned on for over six weeks now unlees in the Guils Hall.

It is unfortunate as I am the type of player who at one point helped people all over the map.

Just can't stand the buying and selling spam anymore.
